Hy-Gard transmission and hydraulic oil is a unique oil developed by John Deere engineers to meet the exact needs of John Deere machines. What viscosity is John Deere hydraulic oil? Hy-Gard oil can be used in most applications calling for 10W-30 or 5W-30 engine oil for transmission and hydraulic oils. Low-Viscosity Hy-Gard is compatible with hydrostatic fluid and can be added to systems, which contain hydrostatic fluid. Low-Viscosity Hy-Gard replaces the John Deere All-Weather Hydrostatic Fluid and should be used as a direct replacement for all applications recommending hydrostatic fluid. What is the equivalent to John Deere hydraulic oil? Petro-Canada Lubricants notes that the key difference between JDM J20A (which is replaced by the current JDM J20C or JDM 20D specification) is the addition of the Alli- son C-4 seal, oxidation, wear and frictional characteristics test requirements - a fact that is not commonly known. What is the difference between J20A and J20D? John Deere machine owners must place this type of oil within the transmission for the winter months. This oil is considered a winter grade lubrication fluid. ![]() In contrast, J20D transmission oil offers a low-viscosity fluid at room temperature. The J20D specification is the cold-temperature equivalent to J20C. It has a -50 deg pour point so low temp operation shouldn’t be a problem. Texas Refinery Corp’s Special Low Temp Universal Torque Fluid meets the JD J20D spec. Top notch products, but initial cost probably won’t be less. Is there a j20d fluid that meets C and D ratings?Īmsoil and Chevron have single products that meet BOTH the C and D rating. This is because it contains a polymeric viscosity improver. It also provides versatility across a range of equipment. It’s viscosity is perfect for John Deere equipment. The default hydraulic and transmission oil selected by them is the Hy-Gard hydraulic transmission fluid. John Deere engineers are selective about the fluid used. What type of hydraulic fluid does John Deere use? The viscosity of this fluid is equivalent to around SAE 10W-30. Mobil Fluid 424 is a mineral oil-based fluid. Before choosing the substitute oil, keep in mind that John Deere uses oils of viscosity 10W-30. With that being said, let’s dive into the substitutes for John Deere hydraulic oil. What is a good substitute for John Deere hydraulic oil? Therefore, you can only substitute the J20C with the J20D when the weather is warm. The J20D is low-viscosity hydraulic oil engineered for cold climates, whereas J20C is high-viscosity which is ideal in a warm climate. ![]() Therefore, it is crucial to know the right oil for your engine. What seemed to be nonsense was the disconnect between a component supplier and a manufacturer regarding fluid viscosity specs. What is the difference between j20c and j20d hydraulic oil? Just to be clear, I was NOT saying any of your statements are nonsense. There is no doubt that the Mobil fluid you have selected will work just fine, but there are many many units running with lowvis without issue, and many of them don't get serviced as they should. Deere is a very large company and aren't going to spec a wrong fluid for years with anything, warranty claims would tell them they were wrong and it would be changed if need be. and have had lowvis in them since new, without issue, just changed at 250 hrs. We have one of these units with over 1,000 hrs., and another with over 500 hrs. The way these units get damaged is to not clean the cooling fins/fan area, they clog up with grass clippings and can't keep themselves cool. The 4.4 is the oil capacity for the K70.Īnd if you were to use the JD lowvis you wouldn't have a problem. Of course my JD owners manual says to use JD LO vis.they want to sell me they're oil! I have used Mobil1 15w50 for years in my TT K61 with never a problem, and I expect it to do the same in my TT K70. I'm sure TT would have said the JD Lo Vis would work fine if I had asked, but I was looking for a synthetic oil that would handle the heat of a hydro transmission better than an old spec Dino oil. I didn't say TT stated you MUST use 15w50.those are your words. I couldn't find the 5w50 locally and called TT and they said the Mobil1 15w50 would work fine in my TT K70 Hydrostatic transmission. The 5w50 synthetic is the new TT recommendation. ![]()
